You can see below a copy of the letter I've sent to Chief Executive of Lloyds Banking Group following the announcement that the Bank of Scotland bank branch in Bellshill will be closing.
This is incredibly disappointing, particularly as it comes so soon after the branch closure in Uddingston. This raises serious questions about access to cash services, as well as a lack of communication with local residents.
I’ve urged Lloyds to reconsider the decision but have also requested a review from independent body LINK who measure access to cash levels in the community to see if other services should be offered. I will be raising the prospect of a Banking Hub in Bothwell/Uddingston, because the priority is ensuring residents, particularly older people or those who face digital or mobility challenges have access to in-person banking.
